Very dark red/black. Hot, dusty nose, probably not helped by the heat of the venue, but with lots of dark fruit beneath the heat. Full in the mouth with lots of forest fruits and hugs grippy tannins. As the tannins fade there is mouthwatering sweetness and finish that is long and delicious.

AHB arrived with two decanted half bottles. The above note was from the first of these and I incorrectly guessed it to be Warre 1994.

We then moved on to "AHB2". My note from that bottle reads: ‟Dusty nose - this is the same wine as the first one - nice try Alex!”

Naughty AHB had indeed decanted 750ml of GM86 and poured it into two half bottles in a blatant attempt to make us look like idiots. Unfortunately, not everyone spotted the trick

Purchased ex-cellars in summer 2010. Dark red in colour, still 99% opaque. Slightly hot nose - which may have been caused by the warmth of the room - but showing some dusty redcurrant. Soft and velvety texture, lots of fruit almost hiding a marked acidity and with powdery tannins that are very persistent. Dry, fruity aftertaste of raisins and sultanas followed by a long, dark chocolate finish. Simply fabulous port. 92/100.

You make it seem terrible.

(The ‟it” that you make seem terrible is, of course, my absence.)
