Fonseca 2000 tasted on 1st September 2007 in St. Helens. Tasted that evening were Fonseca 1920, 1963, 1966, 1970, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1992, and 2000. Also see the review describing the evening as a whole.

From the cellar of Derek T., and cheap-as-chips at only £33.

Purchased in a case of 6 in 2006 through a bulk deal organised by Stuart Chatfield.

Intact plastic capsule is embossed with "Fonseca Guimaraens 2000 Vintage Porto" revealing that (a) the shipper had come to his senses in re-commencing identification of the contents on the capsule and (b) the introduction of Guimaraens into the description of classic Fonseca Vintage Port.

Fill level is very high into the neck and less than 1cm below the cork. The return to very dark, yet transparent glass is also welcome.

Decanted at 21:30 on 31 Aug 07.

Purple. Nose of mango juice (!), or some other bizarre fruit juice. Tastes of melons.

Sounds like this one is best left alone for a couple of years...

I'm ploughing through half a decanter, that was left in the fridge from the Offline. Reasonable mouthfeel, powerful, no subtlety. Worthy of a boring Sunday evening. It's Port, but too upfront. A dry aftertaste.

I haven't seen my bottles for a few years now and doubt I will see them for quite a few more.

I only have 6 of these in my stocks and they are stuck away in a disused chalk mine somewhere. I plan on opening one for my 65th birthday in 2028. If I'm not around then my son can have them for his 33rd birthday.

Right, I'm off. Sorry for the delaying posting. I probably won't finish tonight, either, but it's a start.

The F2000 (is that a shutter speed?) was the last of the eleven tasted for most of us, wary of its shocking deep purple garb. I fear I might have already been a bit tiddly by the time I tasted it, or far too interested in getting back to its elders, because my notes are sparse, to say the least. Like all of the ports tasted that night, this had very little nose, which is not what I would expect of something so young, and probably attributable to the outdoor venue. I noted that it was not as good as the Taylor 2000, which I have tasted in JDAW's company, and, fundamentally:

"It's far too soon to tell."

My TN reads:

Don't open any more - raw!

If I had my notes with me, I'm sure they would say "Gggggg". It was too much like hard work and I was enjoying far too many other Ports to pull it apart and make some sense. The amount left in the bottle at the end said it all.

Leave it alone until you don't feel dirty about opening it.
