1985 Martinez vintage port
Deep red, but starting to mellow and with a slight lightening on the rim; 90% opaque. Not revealing much on the nose, some redcurrant and perhaps a touch of VA that adds a dose of concentrated perfume to the nose. Modest body, soft tannins balance the sweet raspberry fruit and there is a decent core of acidity. Chewy finish of nut skins and raspberry seeds with an interesting orange zest bitterness. Drinking nicely now. 89/100.

No formal notes, but an enjoyable port which was solid and pleasant rather than exciting. Quite mellow, very moreish, great for sipping. Seems, from the various occasions that i have tried it, to offer consistent performance. I would be delighted to have this in my cellar as a casual drinker if i could find it in the £30 region. I rather like the label, too. ***
