On Tuesday 11th October 2011, at the RAF Club, was held a ‘square’ tasting of {Dow, Fonseca, Graham, Taylor} × {1963, 1966, 1970, 1977}. Our honoured guest was Cynthia Jenson, official blogger to the Symingtons.

Links:Before being unblinded G63 was ‟b63”.

b63, lated identified as G63: Very red, 40% opaque. Smooth entry, medium length, a touch too light, and some heat. Taylor-type heat, I thought, wrongly.

Not as spectacular as on previous occasions, though still lovely and my favourite of the '63s. I love the amazingly mouth-coatingly syrupy feel of this port - heavenly. On this showing, ****

Light to medium colour (typical 63), good flavour, quite complex; not too full, but lovely; My best of the 63s and 3rd choice for WOTN.

Burnished gold in colour, 40% opaque. A little subdued on the nose, but opens up with work to show attractive redcurrants and lemongrass. Soft and sweet entry, with flavours that are initially mild but slowly grow to fill the palate and eventually turns into a big wine with great development. Big aftertaste, dominated by dry cedar and intense kumquat. Lovely wine. Served blind and guessed to be the Graham. 88/100.
