On Tuesday 11th October 2011, at the RAF Club, was held a ‘square’ tasting of {Dow, Fonseca, Graham, Taylor} × {1963, 1966, 1970, 1977}. Our honoured guest was Cynthia Jenson, official blogger to the Symingtons.

i70, lated identified as D70: perfect red, 70% opaque. ‟Nice port smell”, I wrote non-helpfully. Heat. Light menthol. Red fruit. Eucalyptus. Middle-weight.

I enjoyed this a lot, though i felt it slightly lost amidst the brawnier ports that surrounded it. I do prefer the D'66 by some distance right now, but this is considerably younger to behold. Showed consistently with my other experience of Dow 70 ****

Deep red core, 80% opaque. Gorgeous nose, full of perfect fruit. Sharp - almost sour - impact with considerable acidity and faint remnants of tannins. The flavours build nicely, but always an unpleasant sharpness. Sweet rosehips show on the finish with a sweet essence. This gives teh impression of needing a little more time. Served blind and guessed to be the Dow. 86/100.
