1947 Noval

45% opaque, almost identical in colour to the Croft '45, just slightly less opaque. Bright on the nose, with dusty rapberries and delicate floral perfume over lively fruit. Concentrated flavours on entry, with gentle tannins; sweet dates and dark raisins dominate the palate. This is concentrated but balanced. Sweet, with nice orange acidity supporting the structure. Treacle dominated aftertaste; with a soft finish full of muscvado sugar and orange marmalade. A little flabby perhaps, lacking some focus. Very much in its tertairy phase of life. 94/100. Drunk 15 October 2011.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
