1946 Dow vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Pale brown in colour, green tinge on the rim; 20% opaque. Sweet brown sugar and a sharp rosemary or antiseptic on the nose. The entry was dominated by the sharp acidity that overpowered the sweet sultanas and concentrated orange zest. Light bodied, sweet and very evolved. Delicate aftertaste and a bitter orange finish of extraordinary length. A fragile wine, probably declining but whose rarity forgives some flaws. 87/100. Drunk 14 October 2011.
