On Tuesday 8th November 2011, in The Steak Exchange EC2A 2EH, friends gathered to note the return to London of jdaw1, and the recent birth of his second daughter. The theme was ‟Port With Star Quality”, with appropriately themed placemats.

GM92, from JDAW: a late-evening addition. Dark dark red, 95% opaque. Nose not liked. ‟Nice body, if not breathing through nose.” Not my thing, it seems.

I was too drunk by this point, so only noted that there was a world of difference between the maturity of this and the half bottletasted in August. I don't believe that the decant time did this port any favours, though the Cavadinha 92 on similar decant showed slightly better i thought. Would like to give this another go. Rating withheld due to lack of faculties.

Deep red and youthful ; opaque. Closed on the nose, what there is is very youthful and a touch sharp. Young and sharp impact on the palate; ripe fruit but with sizeable acidity. Good fruit flavours on the late palate but leightweight compared with the other wines on show today. Warm and generous aftertaste of modest length, with a lovely sweet strawberry aftertaste. Very agreeable but needs a few more years. A second sample tasted 24 hours later was much better and more approachable. 88/100.
