Ch85: 80% opaque, red-red-purple. Young colour. Nose sweet, red cherry, and something high-toned. The taste evolved through the evening. Initially closed. later better balanced, a little roughness mid-palate, plum, and a nice bigness that countered its imperfectly smoothed corners. As ever, very satisfactory port. Would have been better with six hours decant time.
It looks like black cherry juice, with the smell of the bottle lingering on its varnishy nose; a little licorice would develop later. The varnish overpowers the dark cherry flavor, it's tannic and tastes of cask/wood. I also get a little bit of spearmint mid palate, and some evergreen as I breathe out. It improved over the course of the evening. 88/90.
