1999 Dow Quinta do Bomfim

Post by DRT »

A bottle given to me by my son at Christmas and shared with KillerB last night.

I didn't take a note at the time so this is just from memory.

Very dark but starting to show red at the rim and losing some of its opacity. A great nose of dense black fruit and a smooth and delicious entry. Quite approachable, with lots of fruit and initial sweetness which gradually fades into the classic, but not too austere, Dow dryness in the finish.

This is what SQVP should be. It has been released to the masses (via Tesco) at a time when it is ready to give instant gratification, but will also keep well for a decade or two.

Definitely one to watch out for when Tesco do their next big discount offer on wines, and also well worth the current shelf price of around £23.
