1977 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

F77: red to a hint of brown at edge, 50% opaque. Nose not noted initially, but later had raspberry. Taste starts with mocha bitterness, moving to strawberries late. Good port, but not very heavy, and so dwarfed by the ’63. JDAW.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Another view:

Mid-red, bricking rim. Bottles stink on the reductive / rubbery nose. Rubbery flavours on the palate show significant heat damage, although there is fruit present - which is sweet and candied. Pleasant, but heat damaged. NR. 11-Jun-12. 4 hour decant.
