1950 Taylor Special Quinta
Posted: 17:05 Wed 18 Jul 2012
Believed by Adrian Bridge to have been the Vargellas 1950, labelled as “Special Quinta” before being labelled as “Vargellas” with the 1958 vintage. Bottled by Corney & Barrow. Deep amber colour, clearly mature and with a watery rim. Beautiful nose, elegant, attractive and very expressive. Thick texture, slightly soapy but with generous levels of fruit. Lots of black liquorice, sweet and creamy. Very faint tannins. A touch of heat on the aftertaste and finish—long, bitter and black chocolate. Terrific elegance, but a port that is starting to fade slowly. 85/100. 13-Jun-12. Decanted 3 hours.
