On the Wednesday before the 2012 Olympics we were guests of His Excellency Dr João de Vallera, the Portuguese Ambassador to the Court of St James, at his official residence, wherein we had two bottles of Port from each summer-Olympic year, 1948 to 2008.

RHS bottle (THRA, RAYC, jdaw1): dried out, disappointing - though not entirely without merit ** (86)

LHS bottle (WS1, OQ, DRT): (from a taste of WS1's wine) More unctuous, sweeter, fruitier, juicier - lovely honeydew melon. Markedly better *** (89-90)

GM64 (mine): lovely red, 50% opaque. rather hot and dried out, the fruit gone.

GM64 (other): softer and sweeter. Very long and soft, and really quite lovely.
