By the glass from Corney & Barrow in London, served from a freshly opened bottle. Rose coloured, looking like fresh cherry juice. Nose a bit spirity, perhaps not surprisingly given the bottle was just opened, but also bringing plenty of fresh white cherries and a lovely lavender note. Sweet entry, juicy cherries with a surprising amount of bitterness on the edge of the tongue. The mid-palate develops nicely but the acidity is huge and forces you to swallow before the development is finished, development bringing some nice secondary characteristics of red fruits. The aftertaste is long, but very faint for a long time before growing to noticeable proportions. Overall, this is a really nice wine and one I would expect to give a better showing with the benefit of some time in the decanter. Not a blockbuster, but rather delicious and one which will continue to improve for another 5-10 years. 5/6 or 90/100

Alex,

Funny that I am drinking the same SQVP, but 10 years younger. The '97 I'm drinking also has a massive amount of acidity, more so than most VP's I've had and a touch too much if you ask me. So far my experience is simillar to yours...not a blockbuster, but a very nice bottle that I look forward to trying from time to time as the years progress.
