1970 Royal Oporto

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red centre, orange on the rim; 50% opaque. Odd nose, slight mould or mushroom perhaps? Also some subdued fruit and lots of peppermint. Sweet impact, acidic and somewhat bitter; the fruit is light and one-dimensional. Air on the palate releases a touch more dry cranberry. This has a big aftertaste, with lots of heat, but a short finish. Served blind, this was guessed to be an unusual 1970 - perhaps a Kopke Sao Luiz 1970? 82/100. Drunk 04-Sep-12.

RO70, red-brown, 30% opaque. Hint of orange on nose. Unctuous. Soft. Heat mid-palate.
