Obvious suspects gathered in The Bung Hole, theoretically to quality-assure Tom’s new case of 1958 Delaforce, but really for good company and ports.

BBR1970 (Warre), the bottle coming from Cynthia, as was discovered in the thread Who gave me the Burgundy and the Port?. Glorious dark red, 50% opaque. Taste full of rich, red plum. Very full and sweet. Long in palate. Big and delicious.

There was discussion of whether the BBR 1970 was a junior blend of Warre. I have had better W70 than this, but I have also had worse W70 than this. So that wasn’t clear to me, even though others had strong opinions.

A bit of something on the nose put me off this one. Bottle stink? But others did not agree!

Once past the nose, nice meadow fresh red fruits, good length, pleasant sweetness. Vey nice drinking.

The nose bothered me though - probably as that is usually my favourite feature of this bottling - and knocked a couple of points off my assessment *** (88)

Warre. Deep red colour, young nose with little to smell. Sweet and balanced entry, softly flavoured with quiet but dry tannins. Modest body. Delicious aftertaste, although a hint of heat shows at the start of the finish, before a long and concentrated tangerine takes over. Some talk in the room that this might have been corked, but I didn't pick that up. 86/100.

Does anyone recall the decant time this had?
