1978 Dow Quinta do Bomfim

Post by jdaw1 »

Obvious suspects gathered in The Bung Hole, theoretically to quality-assure Tom’s new case of 1958 Delaforce, but really for good company and ports.

DB78, I think brought by Rob. Lovely red, 50% opaque. Nose of wet cardboard; taste of wet dog. Undrinkable.

Generously opened by Wolfgang after the 1979 Bomfim showed up as badly corked. Dow from the late '70s seem to have had a real problem with cork taint - a theory I tested a few days later with another bottle of 1978 Bomfim, which also showed as corked.

TASTING NOTE
Deep red in colour. A hint of corkiness on the nose; bitterness on the palate showing TCA is present at low levels. Not rated. Pop 'n' pour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
