GM79. Dark red. Nose corked; several glasses also had a nose of soap, so it must have come from the juice. Taste very dry and stringent. Not good.

I'll open another one soon - i suspect this was a problem with the individual bottle rather than the port itself. My initial interest was due to having a few friends born in 79.

Here is a review of the port on much better form. BBR also purchased in some stock of it on the back of the same tasting.

Younger looking than the 78. High-toned notes to the bouquet. Sweet and simple palate with a short finish. A fair few rungs below the 78 and I wonder whether this could show better.

From magnum, ex-cellars. Mature appearance, a reddich-brown; 20% opaque. Pine resin on the nose, fresh and pleasant. Neutral entry, immediately showing little; sweetness and burnt toast comes through next but surprisingly little fruit at first. The fruit shows through on the mid- late-palate. Pleasant and enjoyable aftertaste and an attractive finish of terrific length. A little light and hollow on the palate, but a very impressive finish. 85/100
