G77, from Tappit Hen. Apparently this had gone into bottle soon after the TH was opened, and refrigerated to arrest development.
Red, 35% opaque. This wine started horribly stinky ‟meat stink”, I wrote. After 90 minutes the stink blew off, exposing lovely juice. Soft, sweet texture. Cherries. Good weight. Dry throughout palate, with red cherry. Initially horrible, then lovely.

On this night, despite jdaw1's glass of this port smelling significantly better with the benefit of 90 minutes in glass, my samples from two separate glasses (both clean) were both unbearably foul smelling. NR.

This was indeed a sample from the
Tappit Hen that had been opened the previous week.
Mature appearance, slight bricking on the rim; 40% opaque. A touch smelly and alcoholic on the nose, not particularly attractive. Nice texture, but a little hollow on entry, somewhat lacking in fruit but with a reasonable structure. Air and work on the palate released an attractive cranberry - dry, spicy and with generous Christmas cake. A slight harsh burst on the aftertaste, then a long and dry finish. Still a fine wine (from a Tappit Hen opened 6 days previously but kept at cool cellar temperature). 90/100. Drunk 26-Feb-13. Decanted 6 days.
