1977 Fonseca vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

F77: red, 50% opaque. Nose of red grapes. Taste medium-big, unctuous, sweet. Heat mid-palate. Ending shorter than it should be. JDAW, January 2013

Deep cherry red in colour, in early maturity; 90% opaque. Rather closed on the nose, showing some cinammon infused stewed red cherry. Smooth entry, soft candied sweetness enveloping the tongue and delivering layer upon layer of elegant sweet fruit with just a hint of black pepper. The cinammon cherry holds through the aftertaste and long, long length. This is a tremendous port, in elegant early maturity and will evolve to be truly stunning. 93/100. 4 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
