G83. Red, 60% opaque. Mid weight, mid length, but excellent structure. Less fruit that the G85. Maybe a hint of lychee? Tom thought the G85 simpler, and this G83 ‟a succession of flavours, a journey, more complex”.

A dark red, only just losing its colour. Very subtle nose. Very soft - but dry, not hugely fruity. I thought it grew wonderfully and expanded on the tongue.

Imperial College stock. Slightly murky decant; 70% opaque and very similar in colour to the G85 alongside. Floral nose, with a hint of VA. Medium bodied, dry palate with plenty of restrained fruit: dry tannins on the cheeks, which fade quickly to allow the fruit to blossom. An explosion of mature fruit and raisins on the aftertaste before a long and delicious finish takes hold. This is excellent drinking, with some elegance combined with power - just a pity about the VA on the nose. 87/100. 02-Apr-13. Decanted 8 hours.
