1990 Graham Malvedos

Post by djewesbury »

Decanted 2 hours before drinking. Very dark, 70-80%, pink at the rim. On the first night this showed very little. Nose was tight and closed, a little harshness (is this VA? I don't know). On the palate it was immediately soft, very velvety in fact, but not particularly rich. I thought I noticed almonds. A tremendous amount of heat masking anything else.
D+24, this was still very hot and had not developed. D+48, the alchohol had diminished and the almond taste grew into marzipan or stollen cake, but it had little fruitiness.
Disappointing.

Doesn't sound right to me. I'd suggest another bottle (but from a difference source) before you give up completely on this port - but 1990 is not a spectacular vintage.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
