Oscar visited London, so the team sampled some VPs and some stuff described as ‟brown sticky stuff”. Some were served sighted, some were blind.

D55, brought by DRT, and served blind. Mocha on nose and palate. Smooth, full, mid-weight, lovely port. Widely guessed to be one of Fonseca’s great trio of vintages, but actually a mite lighter than that. So smooth. Delicious.

My WOTN, and, by an edge, that of the team.

Rose in colour, with a paling rim that has some bricking; 25% opaque. Subdued nose, hint of fruit but mostly cigar ash. Medium bodied, in the phase of early maturity with plenty of refined fruit and a great mid-palate. Mouthfilling aftertaste and a lovely aniseed length of good duration. Delicious and enjoyable. Served blind this was guessed to be Martinez 1985! 90/100.
