1965 Noval Crusted

Post by jdaw1 »

Oscar visited London, so the team sampled some VPs and some stuff described as ‟brown sticky stuff”. Some were served sighted, some were blind.

Novel’s Crusted bottled 1965, so actually ⅔N63 + ⅓NN62. Brick red, 40% opaque. Middling weight, maybe slightly lighter. Slightly tawnified. Hints of unusual fruits: lychee and banana, THRA identifying peaches. Lovely, but now a little past its prime. Still lovely, but seek an opportunity to drink it.

Mature red colour, pink on the rim and with a red core; still 60% opaque. Baked apricots leap out of the glass. Beautiful balance on the palate, full of fruit - but mature and powerful. This is a big wine that continues to grow and develop on the palate. Huge aftertaste and a medium length finish. Wow! This is a great, mature port. 97/100.
