2003 Pocas Director's Choice Vintage Port
This was a welcome standby after the D77 proved to be duff. Bought two bottles in Weingalerie, Berlin, having read interesting recommendations. This was a lovely port after a short decant. A heavy nose, violets, lavender, my companion observed honey also. On the mouth it had a pleasant black fruit mouth, currants and berries, but it had a cigar ash dryness to it as well, very tannic around the sides of the tongue and the gums, with some tang - this seemed to grow during the evening and eventually felt a little out of balance: a vegetal, woody taste. But it was still an excellent port. I look forward to tasting it again in a few years' time.
