A small group gathered at the Bung Hole for a blind tasting, DJ being in town for the evening. We were joined by two guests: AHB being able to join at the last minute, he was accompanied by Mrs B; DJ brought his friend Richard West.

The line-up of bottles was interesting: five were from the same year, three were the same wine and two were decanted from the same bottle.

Decanted at the Bung Hole.
This was brown, like rhubarb juice. It smelled, also, like rhubarb. Not the best. Pleasant with pork pie however.

W81 LBV. To the eye, brown cloudy much. Nose foul. Not tasted. EAB said ‟interesting”, which was charitable.

Brown and elderly looking, but good depth of colour; 40% opaque. Oxidised, slightly medicinal tone with stewed plums on the nose. Sweet entry, lots of brown sugar and a striking rhubarb acidity. Good texture, quite thick. Enjoyable peppery aftertaste and finish, but a little short and a finish dominated by burnt sugar. Served blind this was guessed to be a compromised bottle of Dow 1970. 82/100. Pop 'n' pour.
