1997 Quinta do Noval Nacional

Slightly cloudy, with a narrow rim the colour of bruised plums. Sweet bruised peaches on the nose, with a lovely fresh leafiness to it - very attractive; the kind of port you can sit and sniff for ages. Sweet and feathery entry, with lots of sweet fruit dominating over a firm tannic core. The acidity is hidden, and is round and ripe. A gloriuos palate. There is a wonderful freshness to the aftertaste, the mouth is washed clean by the acidity before an explosion of flavours and black licorice grabs hold and stays for hours. Fabulous port, which could improve a little with more patience. 98/100. Drunk 16-Sep-13
