D83, 30% opaque, red. Nose foul. And the same foulness present in the taste. Others claimed to see beauty behind the ugliness, but that doesn’t work for me.

That's a shame. I had a bottle of this this weekend and it showed quite well.
From a 1/2 bottle purchased at Wine Bid--decanted 8 hours. Blood red with a burnt orange meniscus. The nose offered pepper and stewed rhubarb. Crisp and light, picked up traces of white pepper, and a good finish with grapefruit under tones. Seemed delicate with nice layers. Just a hint of red fruits mid palate. Seems to be in a good place age wise (of course, this is a half bottle).
Tied for WOTN with the 1963 Dows (1985 Dows clearly 4th)--3rd was a 2007 Quinta do Crasto. Across the board all of these showed very well--a simple blessing when they all do.

Bottle stink that was hard to get past, although I recall drinking most of it by the end of the evening.

Mid red, pale rim; 30% opaque. Rubber on the nose, rather smelly. Smooth entry with a soft texture, then coffee and a bit of burnt rubber on the palate giving a smokey impression with some fragrance coming through on the later palate. A bit of heat then a charcoal tone and a lingering birch sap finish of good length. Not showing as well as would be expected. 84/100. Drunk 02-Oct-13. Decanted 12 hours.
