With Andy Velebil visiting from California, it would have been rude not to. So we did, in The Bung Hole, on Tuesday 8th October 2013.

W70, decanted 14:00. Dark red, 50% opaque. Nose a mite closed. Taste big, unctuous, some heat, and sticky sweet red fruit. Big and full. Grade-A port.

‟Jeeves! Are we really down to the last three pipes of Warre 1970? Grandpa was so mean.”

Oporto bottled. Mid-red, mature in appearance; 60% opaque. An unpleasant plastic edge to the nose, not attractive. Plastic red fruit on the palate, like wax coated paper sweet wrappers. Some slight milk chocolate on the finish. Simple palate, probably a spoiled bottle; certainly not typical of the way Warre 1970 should show.
