To celebrate the Quinquagenary of AHB, he arranged a horizontal of 1963s in Wokingham at The Cantley House Hotel (evenings of Friday 11^th and Saturday 12^th October 2013) and The Walter Arms (lunch on Saturday 12^th), and two evening Champagne tastings for our better halves. Sadly the venue was not able to accommodate all he would have liked to have invited. Diaries had been blocked since early 2012, and bottles had been gathered for most of a decade before that. A splendid weekend indeed.

Dm63. Second darkest of session. Red, cloudy, 50% opaque. Taste sweet, with dark cherry, and heat mid-palate. Though light-to-middling weight, long. Later in the evening it had become thicker and chewier, fuller and better. My wine of the session.

Good strong colour. Dusty nose, reminded me of "Sandy Man"*. Thick, very sweet, with plummy fruit and a nice finish. Good Port.


* We had the pleasure of three Americans for the weekend so this is a memorable reference.

Dusty, aged, fairly sweet and readily quaffable..

clear dark opaque red to black/brown colour; prunes, figs in the nose; really good very concetrated dense nose; fruit cake, dried figs, long complex, pruney; excellent port. Dolamore was a well known british wine merchant located near Waterloo station which went bust in the 80ties. Owned by the Gummer family. David Gummer was known to be a good taster and selected/blended/made based on this bt also very good vintage ports.

I tried some research to get to know which Port might have been in the bottle but was unsuccesful. I am trying with the IVDP now. I am very much getting along with the idea that it was a Taylor bob, since the type of Port is quite similar in quality.

Impressively deep red in colour; opaque. Gentle nose bringing a bit of dusty cherry. The lovely thick texture that is starting to seem typical of the vintage. Fresh fruit on the palate, good levels of acidity keeping the freshness and an interesting sage-leaf twist. Medium-bodied, modest in intensity and still quite acidic. Nice aftertaste, with a big flaring finish that has lots of cherry and green wood tannins. Fine port. 87/100. Drunk 12-Oct-13. Decanted 2 hours.
