1963 Borges

To celebrate the Quinquagenary of AHB, he arranged a horizontal of 1963s in Wokingham at The Cantley House Hotel (evenings of Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October 2013) and The Walter Arms (lunch on Saturday 12th), and two evening Champagne tastings for our better halves. Sadly the venue was not able to accommodate all he would have liked to have invited. Diaries had been blocked since early 2012, and bottles had been gathered for most of a decade before that. A splendid weekend indeed.

Partial links:
Review of the event as a whole, which starts with a full set of links;
Placemats (and parameters by which constructed).

B&I63. From a batch of bottle sold as ‟believed vinatge port”, and the darkest coloured of that batch (others: 1, 2, 3, 4). Dark brown. But the nose wasn’t liked: bacterial, I thought, and was too cowardly to taste.

Bit tart, and well past it's best; but given the track record of this producer, not a bad showing (for them..)

Darker than other bottles of this that I have tasted. Acidic on the palate. Good weight and texture but with some flaws. Was probably good a decade ago.

brownish, orange ruby red color; unspectacular nose which is barely there; good finish though, slight bittereness, a bit acidic on the finish; creamy tasting touch of sweets; not bad port but also not really good.

Deep orange, 40% opaque. Dirty orange on the nose. Concentrated and acidic entry; stays very acidic but is full of intense orange. The sticky, concentrated orange continues through the lengthy finish. 87/100. Drunk 12-Oct-13. Decanted 10 hours.
