To celebrate the Quinquagenary of AHB, he arranged a horizontal of 1963s in Wokingham at The Cantley House Hotel (evenings of Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October 2013) and The Walter Arms (lunch on Saturday 12th), and two evening Champagne tastings for our better halves. Sadly the venue was not able to accommodate all he would have liked to have invited. Diaries had been blocked since early 2012, and bottles had been gathered for most of a decade before that. A splendid weekend indeed.

GB63. Orange brown, 20% opaque. Nose horrible. Not tasted.

Gonzalez Byass has a distinctive sweet style, and this bottle was typical of other GB vintages I've tried. Jaded and pale, this was not a star turn.

light brownish color, slight greenish and orange hints as well; a bit fiery in the nose; tawny, colheita type smell; carton in the finish; revolting on the palate; clearly an over the hill bt.

Light in colour, very pale; 15% opaque. Dirty fruit nose, not very attractive - like badly bruised plums. Lightweight entry, suprising amount of tannins but very little flavour other than barley-sugars. Lingering barley sugar flavours on the palate. Vaguely pleasant, but tertiary and rather bland. 81/100. Drunk 12-Oct-13. Decanted 11½ hours.
