We held our second 'Port of Belfast' event in a room at the Lyric Theatre. We were very pleased to be able to host a tutored tasting of Niepoort wines and ports with Nick Delaforce.

Link to the placemats.

Niepoort Dry White. Golden honey colour. Taste had heat and sweetness, with some sauternes characteristics pineapple maybe. Others really liked this as is, but I thought that it would make an excellent core for a summer cocktail. Chill, add cold tonic, sunshine, a comfortable chair, a sun hat, a beach, and a fine view.

Deep gold: a golden syrup colour. Brighdín detected hazelnuts, which I thought accurate. As per JDAW's remarks above, I sometimes drink this with tonic, but have found that it's possible to then get embroiled in a debate about which tonic to use, whether it is too sweet, whether it drowns the port, &c &c &c. A good way of avoiding this is to drink this on its own.
