NV Niepoort Tawny (Senior Tawny)

Post by djewesbury »

We held our second 'Port of Belfast' event in a room at the Lyric Theatre. We were very pleased to be able to host a tutored tasting of Niepoort wines and ports with Nick Delaforce.

Link to the placemats.

Niepoort Senior Tawny. Golden red-brown. Palate soft, with slight heat mid-palate. Mid-to-light weight. Lovely drinking, the centre of the pleasure being the softness.

Quite red-brown, redder than brown perhaps. This has some very pleasant sherryish characters: perhaps a slight saltiness? Whatever it is makes it very fresh and pleasant. It has a little lemon, a tiny bit of bitterness, a little dryness. It's very good; very pleasant drinking for a 'basic', non-age-designated tawny. This outweighed the Colheita for some - a surprise.
