2008 Niepoort LBV

Post by djewesbury »

We held our second 'Port of Belfast' event in a room at the Lyric Theatre. We were very pleased to be able to host a tutored tasting of Niepoort wines and ports with Nick Delaforce.

Link to the placemats.

Ni08 LBV. Purple, 90% opaque. Purple fruit. Heat strong mid-palate; a hint of spice, which might be pepper. A good LBV, but lacking the balance of the best VPs. Also lighter than ideal.

This is unfiltered, and had a driven cork, but nowhere on the bottle does it mention its lack of filtration, which is odd. I wasn't sure about this; against the tawnies it was sharp, some even said metallic. But with the VPs on show, it was perhaps a little thin. Perhaps an uneven comparison? I'll post another note, there is more of this left..
