1982 Churchill

Tasted 11-07-2003: The first vintage made by Johnny Graham. Unfortunately, this bottle had leaked a bit, due to a completely saturated cork. Oh dear, the nose was familiar: volatile acidity…very thick bodied, with light raisin and cough syrup flavours. Virtually no finish. Disappointing, more like a tawny than a vintage port. Off bottle? Probably. (JS rated it 78 points, so it might just not have been very good to start with).

Stevie,

I have only had one of these and had exactly the same experience, leaky cork, smelly, weak, not nice. I haven't bought a Churchill's since then as I just wasn't impressed.

That's maybe a bit harsh since this was their first try. But it surely wasn't a good port. The newer VP's from Churchill (I've tasted 1997, 1998 and 2000) are pretty good.
The 1995 was a disappointment as well (see TN somewhere else in this section).

Harsh? Me? Never

OK - I'll give them another try next time I see one, although I don't think it will be an 82 or a 95
