Tasted 21-04-2003: Colour was light, very clear, but not brown at all. Nose had some alcohol and strawberry, and a touch of wet earth. Full bodied in mouth feel, but no concentrated flavours. Some raspberry, jammy, just a hint of dried fruit, not too sweet (in the Dow style). Some tannins left, but only just. Medium finish, bringing back the strawberries.

Ronnie commented that this wine reminded him of the ’75 Croft we had last may or so, and I agree. Same flavour profile, although the Croft had an additional layer of game / meat, which made it more interesting. I was also reminded of the ’84 Fonseca Guimaraens, which had the same strawberry / raspberry. Perhaps this is something of older, off-"proper" vintage port? Ronnie and I both preferred the ’87 and ’89 Bomfim.

I tried the leftover some 24 hours later, and the nose was almost gone. Still a nice body, but the finish had become quite hot.

This is over its top, and probably was better 5 years ago. Nice, but drink up: 84 points.
