At Wolfgang’s excellent instigation, we gathered in the Bung Hole to quality-assure a batch of Taylor 1985.

QH94. Mistakenly I thought that we had a last-moment extra person, so did an extra decant. The Tesco 1994 had given pleasure over the festive season, and was to hand. But this bottle smelt disgusting. Not even tasted. An all-round bad idea.

Yes - really very badly flawed. In a bacterial way?

You...and others (link)....seem to have done well with this port recently. I'm beginning to think that i have had rather bad luck with this wine as the good ones are relatively few and far between for me - more usually variations on this bottle (albeit not quite as extreme).

And all of my recent stash, good and bad, have come from the same store, so that categorisation doesn’t help.

Another spoiled bottle of Tesco's Own Label 1994 port. Deep red in colour, approximately 90% opaque. Smelly on the nose, harsh and oxidised - perhaps heat damaged? Hollow and flavourless entry with a mid-palate full of stewed fruit. Clearly spoiled. NR.
