F77, brought by JDAW, ☨ Cross of Lorraine: decanted 10:45. This started out well (well, not top-rank), and then fell apart. Oh dear. Glorious red, 50% opaque. Nose had heat, tannin, and dry cherries. Initially unctuous, with heat mid-palate. DRT rightly observed ‟dry”. ‟Lovely”, I wrote, ‟but not of the very top rank”. Then it fell apart, in ways I didn’t record. Later in the evening, briefly, it tried to stage a recovery, but didn’t quite succeed.

Pale mature red, looking to be in late maturity; 50% opaque. Hollow on the nose with harsh tones - or perhaps dirty tones - on the fruit. Hollow palate, a bit of dirty fruit but not pleasant - the fruit almost tastes like it came from bruised fruit. A long, slow-developing palate, which does open and develop some attractive flavours; dusty and requries considerable patience. Harsh aftertaste that kicks the back of the throat before very slowly developing into a long, attractive, birch-sap and cherry finish. Not showing well. 83/100.
