D94. Equal darkest (equal with Vesuvio), being dark-dark-red 90% opaque. All structure and silk, with less fruit, and a hint of heat mid-palate. I and many others thought this fabulous, and WOTN.

85% opacity, gloopy, deep! deep red. Very little in the nose, on the palate, wow. Starts well and expands to a Lon long finish, plummy, v little tannin. Superb balance. Joint top with the Warre.

Lovely floral nose - dense black fruit - quite closed with a very long life ahead of it.

24 hour decant. 85-90%, dark ruby with a narrow rim. Nose slightly medicinal - no, an antiseptic note, cream for beestings (Alex calls this iodine or ozone, he tells me). Didn't get much past that. The mouth is really mellow, with dates, dried apricots, pleasant bitterness but not overpoweringly so. Very long tooth-tighening tannins. Better than the D94 I've been drinking at home, much.

Deep red with little bricking and a narrow rim. Very different on the nose to the other 1994 ports shown alongside this one - this is powerfully fragrant, full of violets, cloves and star fruit. Restrained at first, the fruit being held in check by powerful tannins but these reluctantly fade back to allow the fruit to emerge as dense, dark black cherry. There is a strong acidity that shows on the aftertaste before a big finish that is initially dominated by the tannins. Eventually the tannins relent to allow a very sweet black chocolate and sticky fruit length Very young, but very impressive. 92/100. 21 hour decant.
