1985 Taylor

Decanted 11 hours. 60% opacity, reddish-brown with nice gloopy legs. Nose had quite a mixture - fig to start, giving way to cherry fruit with a hint of tobacco and menthol behind it. In the mouth immediate heat, lacking structure...a little thin, heat gives way to some acidity mid palate then into a fruity spell - cherries and strawberry jam, with a reasonable finish. Overall, lacks structure and balance, needs to fill out a bit. Will try again in a while.

1.5hrs later. Not improving. Losing the fruit from the finish, VA in the finish. I think this is falling apart :-(

Not enjoying this really, so half a bottle stoppered and into the fridge. Perhaps some kind of miracle will bring this back to life tomorrow...

Unfortunately pretty consistent with the few times I've had this. Not Taylor's greatest vintage, to be sure.

This seems to be a bad bottle. Most of the T85 tasted by team :tpf: in the past two years have been very good. It is a Port that has taken a long time to show its true form and is generally excellent now.

I'd have to check my notes to be certain, but my recent examples have been in the very good range rather than the excellent range. I can't say that Flash's TN rings any bells, though, so that could very well be a bad bottle.

Yes I agree a rogue bottle most likely. Another from the same batch was consumed recently and was very nice indeed. Which only serves to heighten the disappointment of finding this one as I did!
