Very purple and sticky in the glass. Raw nose - very young. A little heat on the nose as I take the first sip from a huge red wine glass (the only one available in the room). Mouthfeel is mid-weight. Very tannic, which seems to be hiding lots of nice black fruit. The finish mellows into a lovely fruity sweetness that makes the cheeks water and goes on and on for a long time.

At this point this is not far away from a <5 yr old VP. Very impresive but not something I would buy again to drink now. Needs years.

Still raw on the nose and still has some heat. Now has a softer and thicker mouthfeel but still very young tasting. A very nice fruity aftertaste which goes on for a long time. This seems to be a wine to try again in 5 years time.

No significant diference from last night. Still raw and young on the nose, just a little softer on the mouth.

Much softer on the nose and in the mouth. Good chewy texture and lots of fruit but still has that tannic dryness of youth. Revisit in 2012.

Derek,

I had exactly the same experience from your latter notes, because I decanted my LBV 15hrs prior to the first sip. To me the Noval Unfiltered LBV was the closest a LBV ever came to a young Vintage Port of high quality.

I've just put away a dozen '97's which I got on a 'shot-to-nothing' bid - strangely shaped bottles - they taper slightly to the base, so that if you try to bin stack them, the upper layers pitch backwards.

Still a bit young to investigate - I might pop one before the year's out.

If you want some, I can supply at £5.50 each
