1964 Taylor Colheita (bottled 2014)

Bottled 2014, sourced from the Wiese & Krohn stocks. Warm brown colour with a slight green hint to the rim. Lovely nose of soft toffee and Turkish Delight, typically colheita with a good dose of VA. Balanced entry, initially with little fruit but a lovely acidity. The palate presence gets better and better with a generous bitter-sweet marmalade and a lovely honey tone on the aftertaste. The finish is slightly cloying and is of burnt honeycomb sugar. Deliciously drinkable. 91/100. Drunk 14-May-14.

I'm not a huge fan of colheita ports and it takes something pretty darn special for me to be impressed. This was nice and I would be delighted to drink a glass if someone gave one to me, but there are others in the world who appreciate colheita ports more than I do and I would be inclined to leave the '64 colheita for them. If I recall, the suggested retail price for the T64c is £150 and for that I could get a bottle of F94 (which I feel is a better drink) and have enough left over for a meal at The Bung Hole - but then I have resigned myself to the fact that I am a committed vintage port man.

Hmm. Given that my ratings are generally very predictable compared to yours, even for the brown sticky stuff, I probably shouldn't bother to seek out any T64 Colheita at that price. There are too many other Colheitas of similar (or better) quality available for less money.

Given your birth year, I think you should buy and try at least one bottle if you can. If you don't, you'll always wonder how it was compared to the Krohn colheita.

Not necessarily. It is wine from the Krohn stocks, but might be a different combination of barrels that were blended and bottled. How will he know unless he buys and tries?
