Traditional LBV bottled in 2006. Decanted off a considerable amount of sludge. Deep red, but no youth in the colouring and a wide transparent rim. Rich fruity nose with a nice balance of sharpness and sweetness. Poised and balanced on the palate, but medium weight and modest in body. Soft tannins and gentle acidity give a structure that supports the growing levels of dense fruit. Sharp acidity that lasts and burns on the aftertaste, but eventually relents to give way to a long and dense sweet blackcurrant and bitter chocolate finish of good length. There are some very serious LBV ports around at the moment and this is certainly one of them! Drinking nicely now but capable of maturing in the cellar for another decade at least. 89/100. Drunk 10-May-14. Decanted 8 hours.
