From a bottle ullaged to mid-shoulder. Burnished copper in colour, very brown; 30% opaque. A little raisin and rubber on the nose, smelling perhaps slightly oxidised. Sweet brittle toffee initially, then a powerful and punishing bitter grapefruit acidity that dominates and hurts the mouth before settling down to reveal vanilla, burnt sugar and sweet date flavours. The burnt sugar dominates the aftertaste and provides a long finish with the bitterness of burnt sugar lasting a long time. Port to be drunk up soon. 85/100. Drunk 24-May-14. Decanted 24 hours.
