Based at Quinta das Aranhas, at Ervedosa do Douro near to Sao Joao da Pesqueira. Offered at EUR 16.67 ex-cellars. Brick red, 90% opaque. A smelly nose, sulphorous. Silky in texture, with gentle fruit that lifts nicely. A modest palate that is full and rewarding with bitter fruit and mild green tannins. A bitter fruit aftertaste and a pleasant fruit finish. A nice, elegant port. 87/100. Drunk 03-Jun-14.

Interesting, I read that Quinta das Aranhas (Spider Farm) was the main winery for Sogevinus. Is this a Sogevinus brand or was it made before they acquired the estate?

The impression I was given by the exporter is that Quinta das Aranhas is an independent producer, but have only made the 1999 and 2003 vintage ports.

My apologies - according to Mayson, it's Andresen who own Aranhas now. Perhaps these are pre-Andresen.
