1996 Fonseca Guimaraens

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bricking red colour, 90% opaque. Appalling, smelly nose, full of mercaptan. Soft texture, hollow entry, little on the palate other than some hints of sweet fruit and soft tannins. The late palate does allow some bubblegum and brandy spiciness. The heat of the brandy shows on the aftertaste and finish. The finish lingers and improves. This is a port which should reward faith and will improve further in the cellar. 81/100. Drunk 03-Jun-14.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
