2001 Taylor Vargellas

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red with a brick rim. Almost opaque. Modest and attractive nose. This has lost its initial puppy fat and is now showing some teenage attractiveness of evolved fruit. Delivers a silky texture and gentle fruit dominated by bubblegum and strawberries. The tannins are big and green and the acidity is extremely pronounced. A big finish of good length, full of sharp fruit and toasty tannins. This could be drunk today, if it had to be, but will be better in 10 years. 87/100. Drunk 03-Jun-14.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
