1977 Smith Woodhouse

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Ruby red tinge to the rim but a deep, firm mid-red centre; 80% opaque. Pleasant and attractive nose of sweet black cherry and a hint of nutmeg. Soft and silky texture on entry, followed by a wave of dry cocoa tannins and wonderful red fruit. Lovely palate with plenty of youthfulness. A big aftertaste then an explosion of flavours of fruit, dark chocolate and terrific complexity. Fantastic port, really very fine and with decades of life ahead. 91/100. Drunk 22-Jun-14. Decanted ½ hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
