2008 Taylor LBV

Deep red colour, with a hint of purple. Nosing of stewed fruits, as though it had been open longer than was ideal - quite likely given the heat and the fact this is served by the glass. Nicely fruity nose though. Sweet and yummy at first, then interesting charcoal tannins poke through the fruit syrup and force you to swirl the port in your mouth. Well worth doing as a pretty simple wine suddenly shows surprising complexity. But then you swallow the wine and release this intense burst of lasting heat that seats and burns the throat. Eventually, after making a few croaking sounds in a desperate attempt to attract the barman's attention to get a glass of water the heat eventually fades and leaves a very long, sour raspberry finish that is enjoyably intense. This is a bit of a weird LBV, but I quite like its uncompromising nature. 85/100. Drunk 23 July 2014.
